Porta proudly upholds Chain of Custody certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), guaranteeing the traceability of our timber from forest to final form. This vigilance ensures our products are ethically sourced, addressing any concerns about legality and ethics in our sourcing practices.

  • Bridgewater Mill: Efficiency and sustainability are the hallmarks of our Bridgewater Mill, where we take pride in repurposing an impressive 95% of waste generated. Wood chips begin a new life in the pulp and paper industry, and even sawdust finds purpose in powering furnaces or being converted into wood pellets, significantly reducing our environmental footprint. Our support extends to local community groups as well, through donations of timber to community gardens and men’s sheds, further embedding sustainability into our community engagements.

  • Fairfield Manufacturing: Our Fairfield factory epitomises our relentless quest for waste reduction, where 15% of our products are given a second life through innovative sales strategies or repurposing. The cornerstone of this achievement lies in our modern tooling processes, designed to minimise waste by repurposing finished products as raw materials. Our collaboration with Resource Rescue ensures dowel rejects are put to good use, supporting local community projects such as crafting games for aged care facilities, or turning sawdust into valuable bedding for chicken farms through a partnership dedicated to daily collections. Our forward-looking waste management strategy includes seeking partnerships with companies, aiming to repurpose reject mouldings and further reduce our contribution to landfill.

  • Product Development and Continuous Improvement: Our journey towards sustainability is a constant pursuit of innovation. We are at the forefront, conducting pioneering research into fast-growing plantation timbers and finding revolutionary uses for waste materials, thereby pushing the limits of sustainable manufacturing.
